Schreiber and sohne bassoon 163716/22/2023 The people that were at the Scheriber booth in Oklahoma were not the same people that were at the booth at this year’s conference. Personally I actually want them to succeed and make a good bassoon, but at this point they still have some improvements to make, in my opinion. Their workforce is in flux, in my understanding, and there may be turn-over in who will be making the bassoons, and they seem receptive to take criticism of their bassoon design from players/vendors in order to improve the brand. It required no effort, and my concern was that a young student playing on it would not learn proper air support habits because you were blowing into a brick wall that gave you nothing for your effort. It played OK, but you didn’t need, and couldn’t even really use, good air support to make the thing work. The student (short reach) bassoon was really resistant to me. The intermediate bassoon was just so-so… it worked, but at the same price point as a Renard, I feel the Renards are better bassoons. The professional level bassoon (retail price around the $12k mark) played pretty well, although it had some problems with consistency across the range. 2,250 (wma > Agawam MA ) pic hide this posting restore restore this posting.
